Ethical Tea Partnership launches in Westminster - 02|02|2005

"New Look" ETP launched at House of Commons

The Ethical Tea Partnership launches today (February 1) at the House of Commons.  Formerly known as the Tea Sourcing Partnership, member companies have joined forces to raise awareness about ethical trade in the tea industry to MPs and others within Government.

From late 2005 onwards, Ethical Tea Partnership brands will progressively begin to reference their membership on pack. Tens of millions of tea packages will carry an invitation to find out more about the work of the Partnership with the aim of sparking dialogue and consumer interest in ethical trade.

Katy Tubb, Chair of the Ethical Tea Partnership explains, "Tea is an intensely competitive market but Ethical Tea Partnership members are working together on this issue because they recognise that ethical trade is not just good for our thousands of tea producers around the world it also makes good business sense.

"The Partnership is working for greater transparency; monitoring conditions in tea production and raising consumer awareness of the issues. Our long-term aim is to demonstrate that 100% of the tea our members buy is ethically produced."
